In the fall of 2009, Sterling McCall and Kathleen Johnston entered into a partnership to create the Sterling McCall Antiques Showcase. Sterling McCall, now retired, is an iconic name in Houston. He once owned Houston's largest Toyota and Lexus dealerships. Johnston semi-retired, thanks to this show, owned and operated a full-service advertising agency in Houston for nearly thirty years working for local, regional and national companies. Through the years, Sterling and Johnston have served on the boards of local non-profits together, worked as client and agency on various marketing projects for the Sterling McCall Old Car Museum Foundation, and have become friends who have mutual admiration and respect for each other - all the ingredients necessary
for making a good team. "When Kathy and I first talked about this venture, I felt that the blending of our facility resources, management and events and marketing expertise would result in a successful endeavor and a much needed higher-end venue in this popular Warrenton area," says McCall.
The vision has been realized. Johnston who brings double-digit years of major events management experience to the table is intent on keeping the show's focus of being over 90% all-antique and vintage with high quality and varied vendors. "We want a balance of merchandise, all of a desirable quality. We also want vendors who know how to merchandise and who understand the value of their own marketing efforts, in concert with ours. Above all, we want our visitors to appreciate the shopping experience as much as they do the more comfortable environment that we have." All three of Sterling's buildings are ideal for hosting shows during Round Top's fall & spring antique weeks. The facilities are also used for special events such as weddings, and Round Top Family Library's Wrangler's Gala. The Neese house has even been used for chamber music provided by the Fayetteville Chamber Music Festival.
Each building is fully climate controlled, has great ease of access for loading in and out, and features amenities such as WiFi, excellent food service, and nice restroom facilities for both vendors and the general public. "With so many shows being held in tents in the midst of fields, our "showcase" is like a breath of fresh air for our shoppers. Plus, we're delighted to have Bistro 108 in La Grange as our exclusive food-service vendor. Their "Little Bistro" located in the center Showcase building is a sought-after spot for those who want something really tasty and healthier for lunch," says Johnston.
The three buildings that comprise the Sterling McCall Antiques Showcase include the historic 1870 Neese House, a 2-story home built in Greek Revival style by Wilhelm Neese who is credited with founding the burg of Warrenton. The center Showcase building, is 18,000 sq, ft., with two large exhibit halls. The somewhat smaller Museum building features a beautiful showroom-style lobby and rear exhibit area.
